First phase of Tomatlán International Airport to be ready in May 2023
The first phase of Tomatlán International Airport is expected to be completed by May 2023. According to Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Jalisco Secretary of Tourism, the international airport will have a direct impact on the regional development of the state and will bring benefits to the municipalities of Cabo Corrientes, La Huerta and Puerto Vallarta.
This exciting project is just one of the many items included in a comprehensive US $400-million investment package announced last year to develop the Costalegre. The area boasts a breathtaking series of 43 virgin beaches, captivating capes and serene bays, all nestled along the Pacific coast between the major tourist hubs of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco and Manzanillo in Colima. With new infrastructure in the pipeline, the future of tourism in this stunning region looks set to flourish.
“This is a comprehensive project and its first phase will be ready in three months to start handle first private flights,” said the secretary. For his part, the governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro, explained that the airport will be a key player in the development of the Jalisco coast.
“There were those who did not believe that it was going to happen, but, here we are working very hard to make it happen. These first 30-million-pesos investment will allow us to make the taxiways, aircraft stands, the first terminal building and to must comply with all the requirements for granting concessions”, Alfaro commented.
Our goal is to star operations this year, first with some private flights, hoping that in the near future we will be able to operate as an international airport with larger commercial planes and flights. Once completed, the airport will be a 90-million-pesos facility capable of accommodating 170-passenger aircraft, serving both commercial and private flights.
Local authorities and state officials have spoken about the region’s breathtaking beaches, describing them as “a diamond in the rough” and “destined to become the most beautiful beach on the Pacific coast.” They have also heralded the Costalegre as the future of beach destinations not only in Jalisco, but in all of Mexico. This investment package will help bring the area’s true potential to fruition and establish it as a must-visit destination for years to come.
